Art exhibition on Colonialism and the Climate Crisis
Pleased to announce the launch of my art exhibition “Colonialism and the Climate Crisis” at Bangalore Creative Circus. This series was made possible by a grant from a human rights organisation ICAAD (International Center for Advocates against Discrimination) based in New York.
With this series of 8 paintings, the aim is to make explicit the link between colonialism and the climate crisis. Often framed as simply a matter of reducing carbon emissions, the climate crisis is a result of colonialism, both historical and ongoing. The domination-based, extractive, consumption-centred way of life that is disconnected from any sense of wonder and humility before the infinite workings of the planet. The colonial dimensions and the gravity of the climate crisis are news only to those who have been oblivious to the centuries-long violence of colonization. The series also explores how indigenous wisdom from various cultures can bring us closer to our role as a custodial species on the planet, with a sense of belonging instead of domination.
When: On till Dec 15, 11 am to 7 pm (closed on Mondays).
Where: Bangalore Creative Circus, Yeshwantpur (near Orion Mall)
Hope to see you there!
